Near the end of this interview, this week’s guest said something that I feel like I need to have printed out and framed on the inside of my front door, so I see it before I go out into the world each and every day. She said, “My whole self is coming with me everywhere today.” Can you imagine how your life might shift if you brought your WhOLE self everywhere with you each day? The presentable parts, the messy parts, the hurt parts, the trying really hard but still missing parts? And what if we all did that? Just showed up as ourselves?
I feel like it the whole world would just be more gentle, more real, more truthful. Because when we give ourselves permission to be real, we are giving it, my extension to others. How much energy do you spend every day, trying to make other people think you are a bit less messy than you are? Maybe we could set that down.
Melissa Camara Wilkins has just released a book with a number of suggestions about how to do just that. In this episode, we talk about Permission Granted: Be Who You Were Made to Be and Let Go of The Rest!, and different ways you can start giving yourself permission to be your whole self, everywhere.
